Further to the exchange Scott Plutchak and I were having and something that came up at the Centre for Life History Research's recent event, here's Cyril Connolly, thanks to Thomas N Burg:

I must check this: I imagine it must be from a review in the NS, but a review of what?  I have some Connolly at home, and  this may have been anthologised. What would Cyril Connolly's blog have looked like I wonder? Lots of pictures of lemurs, I'll be bound.

Interesting, though does the world really need two pictures of Roddy MacLeod, handsome though he is? I should like to know if there's any less "official" blogging going on at Olympia. I'm not going this year, I fear.

Emerald: publish early, publish often

The Chronicle picked this up and I haven't seen any UK comment yet, though Emerald are based here and their list contains a number of library and information science titles. There's a PowerPoint presentation and an article accepted for publication in Spring 2005 in Library Resources & Technical Services (LRTS).
Subsequently I've found a press statement on Emerald's web site. It sits in the November 2004 section but is otherwise undated.

The frustrations of the 21st century

Here I am on a train, and my PowerBook has picked up a strong wifi signal. But can I use it? Of course not, though I'd happily pay a reasonable fee, if only to be able to blog that I'm "on the train".
It's the same network I encountered once before, Nomad, but whereas first time round I didn't care that I couldn't use it, I was excited to see that it was there, now I'm just annoyed that there's no way of using it.
I contacted them last time and was told that it was experimental, and asked if I would like to test it. I replied that I would, but never heard any more.
Postscript: on the way home I had time to kill at Victoria so logged on to the BT OpenZone network in the bar, surrounded by drunks, bought some more time, then the battery went.
