As I write, Ayr are about to inspect, and Ascot's big race, the Aon Chase, has been switched to Kempton and renamed, making the debate about Denman even more complicated. His trainer, Paul Nicholls, is quoted in the Racing Post this morning as saying, 'Kempton is obviously not ideal... but we have got to run somewhere'. Yet he appears in the tissue at 1/2. The right-handed course will suit him, the ground will be a problem for his nearest rival, Alberta's Run, and the other horse in contention, Trabolgan, has had tendon trouble, though his form of a couple of seasons ago still looks impressive. For some reason, I'm only taking an interest in chases today.
